In Memory of

Carl Lee Dowdy

March 13, 1962 - November 2, 2022
From: Cherokee, IA

Carl Lee Dowdy, son of Eugene and Frances Sue (Lester) Dowdy was born on March 13, 1962 in Storm Lake, Iowa.  He went to school in Rembrandt, IA and graduated from Storm Lake High School.  Carl was united in marriage to Carmen Klein on June 6, 1989.  They just celebrated 33 years of marriage.

Carl was in the Army from 1980 – 1982.  He received an honorable discharge when he was diagnosed with a severe mental illness.  Carl worked several jobs throughout his life including a janitor in different factories, paper route, worked at Carey’s Restaurant, Country Club, and Swains Turbo Tunnel.  Carl was able to manage his illness with medication most of the time but it affected his everyday life and gave him extra challenges.  It gives his family peace that he is finally free from his pain.

Carl loved classic country music and classic rock music, bingo, watching westerns, sitting outside drinking tea and going to Sparkys.  He would call his family and friends daily to make sure they were “ok” and to tell them he loved them.

On November 2, 2022, Carl passed away at the age of 60, with his family by his side in Omaha, NE.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Francis, mother and father-in-law, Tom and Marsha Klein of Granville, IA, his brother, Howard Dowdy, his niece, Beth Lester, his nephew, Joshua Lester and his grandmother, Emma Lou Hardin.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Carmen, three children, Ashley Curtis and special friend, Jon Anderson, Amanda Dowdy and Alyssa Dowdy, 13 grandchildren, Kaiden, Kyleigh, Bryce, Aubree, and Jayda Curtis, Kyson and Carlee Rexroat, Carter and Kyrie Vaughan, Izaiah Her, Micah Bolden, and Heilani and Mahana Taumoepeau; brothers, Darrell (Dixie) Lester of Sioux Rapids, Edward (Jan) Dowdy of Sioux Rapids, Glen Dowdy of Cherokee, Kevin (Shawna) Dowdy of Arlington, KY; sisters, Linda Hansen of Ocheyedan and Melissa Rhea of Kentucky; brother-in-law, Bill Klein of Orange City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
