In Memory of

Carey Lyman Hetrick

September 27, 1943 - October 14, 2021
From: Cherokee, IA

Carey Lyman Hetrick, age 78, of Cherokee, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, peacefully in his residence.

Carey was born in Doon, Iowa on September 27, 1943. He was the son of Lyman “Bud” and Geraldine (Wedlock) Hetrick. Carey graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1962.

He married Carol E. (Lochner) Hetrick on September 9, 1972. They had a wonderful life together and raised three daughters: Tina, Coree, and Tayla.

Carey was most known for owning/operating Carey’s lounge, restaurant, and steakhouse. In 1982, Carey and Carol decided to close the doors of the lounge and opened the Christian Book, Music, and Supply store. In each business, Carey had multiple opportunities to share the testimony of his dramatic life change when he surrendered his heart to Jesus, His Lord. He was unashamed of his faith and would readily share with any who needed a word of encouragement or who needed to receive Jesus and be born again.

Carey was happiest being in the restaurant. He worked faithfully over the years and was rarely absent from the business. Even up until a week before his passing you could find him in the kitchen. He was energized by the community and truly appreciated seeing and visiting with all who would come in.

Carey has been happily promoted to Glory and his family knows he is reunited with the love of his life, Carol. All here will miss Carey, but we rejoice knowing this life is temporary, but eternity is forever. Choose Jesus today.

Remaining of his family include Daughters, Tina, her husband Tim Westbay and his daughter, Keeli of Cherokee, IA, Coree, her husband Paul Stewart and their daughters, Shelby and Caitlyn of Colorado Springs, CO; and Tayla, her husband Craig Nelson, and their son, Alexander of Des Moines, IA, Siblings, Jerilynn, her husband Donald DeMorland of Davidsonville, MD; and David, his wife Shirley Pierce of Aurelia, Iowa, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Carey was preceded in death by his parents, his precious wife, Carol, his brothers Larry Hetrick; Tom Hetrick; and a sister, Alice Jean Buenger.

Carey was known for his quick wit, his humor, and his generosity. Volumes would be filled if all his stories were told. Carey’s life truly made an impact, and he will be remembered by all who knew him. He lived a full life and is now resting in the presence of his Savior.

SERVICES
A come and go celebration of Carey's life will take place on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Carey's Restaurant in Cherokee.
INTERMENT
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

“Dear Tina, Corey, and Kayla, We were so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We was a good man and loved Jesus. What I remember about your Mom and Dad was their kindness to our daughter Chesley. When she was young they loved to shop for Easter and Christmas gifts for her. They gave her some lovely Christian Easter and Christmas children's books. I still have them; I cherish them very much. I hope to read those books to Chesley's children some day. I'll be able to tell them that their great great aunt and uncle Carol and Carey loved Jesus so much that they wanted to share the good news with their future great great nieces and nephews. That is very special. Much Love, Annette and Chuck Buenger”
