In Memory of

James "Archie" Alan Bunkers

November 25, 1950 - August 25, 2020
From: Cherokee, IA

James “Archie” Alan Bunkers was born November 25, 1950 in Cherokee, to Derrell and Gloria (Thompson) Bunkers. He was a 1969 graduate of Washington High School. He started his college education at Iowa State University and then transferred to Oklahoma State University where he was part of the golf team and completed his Bachelor’s Degrees in Turf Management, Agronomy and Horticulture. Afterwards he worked as a golf course superintendent in Encampment, WY and Jefferson, IA.

With his thirst for knowledge not quite yet quenched, James went on to obtain his Bachelors and then Masters Degrees in business and computer programming. With this he started his career with Dakota Pork in Mitchell, SD where he found and displayed a knack for computer programming and business. James then went on to open multiple of his own businesses in Cherokee, IA.

In his early years, James enjoyed piloting; playing golf, visiting with friends, and those close to him will remember how very particular he was about his lawn.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Derrell and Gloria Bunkers and his wife, Nicole Bunkers.

He is survived by his children Mandy (Joe) Bush, Michelle (Adam) Pigott, Jacque (Jason) Miller, Joe (Freedom) Bunkers and Taylor Ann Bunkers; Brothers, Ron (Nancy) Bunkers and Doug (Becky) Bunkers; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children; other relatives and friends.

A memorial gathering will take place with family present on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. A memorial prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
