Mary "Veronica" Hartliep, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Carter) Gill was born on May 6, 1918, in Cherokee County, Iowa. She graduated from Quimby High School in 1935. Following graduation, she worked for a few years at F.W. Woolworth in Cherokee. Veronica was united in marriage to Edwin "Merrill" Hartliep on April 8, 1939 in Cherokee. They lived in Cherokee County all of their married lives, during the early years in rural locations, eventually moving to Cherokee. Following her husband's death in 1971, she remained in their home until the onset of her recent illness.
Veronica was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the I.C. Ladies' Union. She led an active life until the time of her recent illness, enjoying daily walks with friends, as well as weekly lunch and breakfast gatherings. She looked forward to spending holidays with her son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, most often in the home of her son. And on several occasions, she enjoyed joining her family for vacations.
On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Veronica passed away at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home at the age of 94. She is survived by her son, Gill (Nancy) Hartliep, of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Steve (Gina) Hartliep of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Susan Hartliep of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Nicholas Hartliep and Lauren Hartliep; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merrill, in 1971; daughter, Marilyn, in 1984; and brother, Albert "Jock" Gill.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.
