Vernon L. Riedemann

Vernon Lee Riedemann, the son of Vernon H. and Gladys (Otte) Riedemann, was born June 22, 1942 in Valley City, ND. His early childhood years were spent on a farm near Sutherland, IA. The family later moved to Primghar, where Vern graduated from Primghar High School. Following graduation he worked for a time at the Berkley Co. in Spirit Lake, IA. On June 8, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Shafer, and they were blessed with a son, Jimmie. They later divorced. He married Donna Roland on April 29, 1977. Vern adopted Donna's son Garry, and the couple also became parents to Jeremy and Ryann. They made their home in Sutherland, and Vern worked for Schoon Construction for many years. In 1985 they moved to a farm north of Meriden, IA, and in 1998 moved to their current home in Marcus. He was employed at Marcus Lumber, primarily as a plumber. Vern loved to be outdoors--especially working in his yard or camping. He adored his many pets, which consisted of both cats and dogs. He had been involved in Figure 8 races as a car owner and member of the pit crew. While living in Sutherland Vern was involved with the Masonic Lodge and the Jaycees. He was a member of the Marcus United Methodist Church. Vern passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA on January 26, 2013, at the age of 70, following complications from the flu. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Marcus; his sons, Jimmie Riedemann and his wife, Ronda of Parker, CO, Garry Riedemann of Des Moines, IA, Jeremy Riedemann of Marcus, and Ryann Riedemann of Boise, ID; his grandchildren, Jared, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Jenna, and Reesa Lilliana; one brother, David (Liz) Riedemann of St. Peters, MO, and one sister Betsy (Kenny) Miller of Primghar; his parents-in-law, Donald and Jean Roland of Sac City, IA, a brother-in-law, Sonny (Sabrina) Roland and sister-in-law Sharon Erritt; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
