Veldene June Lindell, age 83 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, IA. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Burial will take place at Lake Belt Township Cemetery in Ceylon, MN. Public visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Veldene June (Tow) Lindell, daughter of Obed and Emma (Jones) Tow, was born on June 9, 1940 near Granada, Minnesota. She grew up in Armstrong, Iowa. Veldene was baptized at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, IA and confirmed in June of 1955. She attended Armstrong schools, graduating in1958.
On September 30, 1958, Veldene was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) Lindell at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, IA. They lived by Ceylon, MN where they farmed for several years. They moved to Larrabee, IA in early 1967 and settled in Cherokee, IA in March of 1976. Together they were blessed with three children, TyAnn, Bruce and Myla. Veldene worked for the United States Postal Service from December 1969 until November 2001. Jerry and Veldene were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee where Veldene was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also active in Relay for Life for many years. After she retired, Veldene became a world traveler, venturing to China, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, London, the Panama Canal, and Hawaii. She learned to play bridge and enjoyed several bridge clubs. She was active in the Women’s Investment Club. She enjoyed bowling, going to plays and musicals, and shopping for finds at thrift and antique stores. Most of all, Veldene enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed creating holiday memories for three generations of Lindells.
Veldene was preceded by her parents, Obed and Emma Tow, her husband, Gerald on July 19, 1994, her brothers, Derrell, Ronald, Clifton, Ordean Tow and infant sister, Erlyss Tow.
Veldene is survived by her children, TyAnn (Todd Eckstrom) Lindell of Fultondale, AL, Bruce (Cindy) Lindell of Bellevue, NE, and Myla (Tim) Stoneking of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren, Kyle (Tiffany) Stoneking, Bailey (Phil) Fowler, Geoffrey (Melodee Simone) Morehead, Nico and Emma Lindell; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce Tow, Lois Tow, Elaine Naeve, and LaVonne Tow; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity Growing, Trinity Lutheran Church, 230 N. Roosevelt, Cherokee, IA 51012 or the nonprofit of the of the donor's choice.
