Twyla Mae Ritter was born on February 2, 1935 in Hartley, IA to Cornelius and Pearl (Blok) DeBoom. She attended country school in O’Brien County, north of Sutherland, IA until high school. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1953.
In March of 1954, she married Harold Maddox of Cherokee. They later divorced and she married Verl Ritter of Cherokee on December 27, 1968. She had worked as a psychiatric aide, bookkeeper, bartender, janitor, and after working various positions at the newspaper, she retired from the Cherokee Daily Times in October, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Maddox Wright and her husband Michael; sons, Hal Maddox and Eric Maddox and his special friend, Ronda Simm, all of Cherokee; a sister, Audrey Garneau, Peru, Maine; a brother, James (Mary) DeBoom, Sutherland, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, (especially the p.m. coffee bunch at Mickey D’s.)
She was preceded in death by her husband Verl, on November 29, 2010; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Ronald and Shirley Sohn; a sister, Carol Ruby; and a brother-in-law, Marshall “Red” Garneau.
A time of remembrance will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Community of Christ Fellowship Hall located at 411 Clark St. in Cherokee
