Tony James Wolcott was born in Cherokee, Iowa on June 18, 1958, to James and Virginia (Odle) Wolcott. He grew up on the family farm in rural Cherokee County, and attended the Aurelia, Iowa schools. He received a vast amount of his education inside a rodeo arena. He won his first rodeo when he was just 8 years old. He participated in numerous 'Little Britches' rodeos until he was 15, and began riding bulls professionally at age 16. Tony felt right at home with the Cowboy life. For several years he broke horses and worked on a ranch at Devil's Lake, North Dakota. It was on that ranch that he married Marsha Tewes on September 18, 2002. When he wasn't on the rodeo circuit, Tony worked construction operating heavy equipment, at Tyson Foods, and as a farmhand.
Tony's love of the outdoors led to a lifetime of hunting and fishing. He looked forward to the opening weekend of pheasant hunting, and to the first snow, which meant the beginning of coyote season. Spring and fall brought fishing at the river,in search of that biggest walleye.
Tony passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center on April 8, 2016, at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kim Wolcott, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marsha; his parents, James and Virginia Wolcott, a stepson, Brian (Davina) Tewes, and step grandchildren Kaley, Katelyn and Briley; a sister, Carla DeYoung and brother Darin Wolcott; a nephew Brandon (Tiffany) DeYoung and niece AJ Wolcott; several aunts, uncles and cousins; other relatives and friends.
