Thomas Harry Selk was born on March 22, 1947 in Cherokee, IA to Harry and Ella (Hell) Selk. His childhood years were spent in Sutherland, IA where he graduated from High School in 1965. After graduating from Mankato State University, he was drafted into in the Army. He spent two years serving his country.
On December 1, 1973, Tom was united in marriage to Gertrude Messerole. They spent their married life in Larrabee, IA, and were blessed with three children, Michele, Sheila and Scott.
Tom worked in the Service Department for Peterson Motors before becoming a partner in Hwy 59 Tire Shop in Cherokee, Sioux City and LeMars, IA. He later worked in Parts and Sales for Holzhauer Motors in Cherokee, IA.
Tom was an active member the IC Church where he was on the parish council, sang in the choir, served as a cantor, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also helped with RCIA. He loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. He enjoyed being involved in music and making redwood signs. He cherished time with his friends and family, especially going to his grandchildren's activities.
Tom passed away on December 7, 2014, with his family by his side, at the Ft. Madison Health Center in Ft. Madison, IA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Anna Selk, Johannes and Sarah Hell; parents, Harry and Ella Selk; parents-in-law, Gordon and Gertrude Messerole; uncles and aunts, George and Dora Bern, Carl and Edna Meyer; brothers-in-law, Jesse, Tiny and Bob Messerole; sister-in-law, Sheryl Messerole.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Gert Selk of Larrabee; daughters, Michele Selk of Houston, TX; Sheila (Kyle) Trapp of Washta; son, Scott Selk of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Alyssa, Garrett and Gavin Trapp of Washta; brother-in-law, Red (Mary) of LeMars, IA; sister-in-law, Joyce (Mike) Bechtel of Cherokee, IA; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 11th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will be at the funeral home beginning at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10th. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A prayer service and Knights of Columbus Rosary will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m.
