Thomas Patrick Midland, the son of Lyle and Margaret (Willard) Midland was born December 28, 1957, in Denver, CO. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1976.
On October 1, 1977, Thomas was united in marriage to Kerry Ludwig at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Following their marriage they live in Cherokee until 1990, when they moved to Le Mars, IA. Thomas attended and later worked at Westmar College where he taught. He later worked for Langel’s Plumbing and Heating. In 2002, they moved back to Cherokee and he worked construction with Joe Tinker and most recently he worked for Schmillen Construction in Marcus.
Thomas enjoyed making pottery, target shooting, fishing, the Renaissance, and listening to good music. He also liked running away to the Black Hills, and having Saturday date night with Kerry. He was an avid traveler and had made three dream trips to Italy. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons.
On November 1, 2018, Thomas passed away at his home with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Margaret Midland; father and mother-in-law, Mary and Vernon Ludwig; and sister-in-law, Kristi Boyd.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kerry Midland of Cherokee, IA; his children, Molly Patricia (Tim) Van Engen of Orange City, IA, Kelli Ann Midland of Le Mars, IA, and Tyler Owen (Katrina) Midland of Struble, IA; three grandsons, Collen Van Engen, Cody Avenge, and Andrew Jacobson; siblings, Deb (Jim) Kollman of Iowa City, IA, and Diane Wagner of Atlanta, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kim Ludwig of Bay City, TX, and Kelly John Ludwig of Richmond, VA, Keith (Kimberly) Ludwig of Cherokee, IA, Kathy (Jeff) Scruggs of Pilsby, TX, Caroline Sieverts of Council Bluffs, IA, Kandiece (Brian) Kindwall of Beaumont, TX; and many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
VISITATION
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday night until service time at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
