Thomas “Tom” Augard, age 82 of Cherokee, IA, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia. It was Tom’s wish to be cremated and no services are currently planned. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements. Thomas “Tom” Arthur Augard, the son of Harold and Leona (Kline) Augard, was born July 13, 1941, in Waukegan, IL. His family moved to Cherokee, IA, where he attended school and Graduated from Washington High School. He then worked at Swanson’s Warehouse. He later worked for Hygrade until it closed. He then worked for Holzhauer Motors starting as a salesman. He later became parts manager. Tom then started his own business, Tom’s Turf and Timber, selling lawn mowers and chainsaw equipment. He continued until his retirement in 2003. Tom then worked his “fun job” delivering flowers for Hy-Vee Floral Shop.
Tom was an avid cook. He especially loved making Thanksgiving dinner, even if it meant having leftovers for a week or better. He also enjoyed his garden, woodworking, bird watching, and deer hunting. Tom also enjoyed the time he spent working as a reserve police officer for over 29 years.
On Saturday, July 29, 2023, Tom passed away peacefully, with his family by his side at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, IA at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Augard, mother and step-father, Roy and Leona Kline; one brother, one sister, one half-brother, Robert Stern; one nephew, Michael Stern; and one half-sister.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Bonnie Augard of Cherokee, IA; sons, Jay Augard of Cherokee, IA, and Joel Augard of Illinois; three grandchildren, Kody Augard of Webb, IA, Tamisha Augard of Cedar Falls, IA, and Casey Carey of Omaha, NE; two half-brothers, Mike Kline and Roy Kline; three half-sisters, Sandy Cameron, Sally Kline, and Georgia VanWormer; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at a future date
