Terry C. Burkhart, son of Carvel and Bea (Jacobson) Burkhart, was born on November 7, 1948 in Cherokee, IA. He attended the Cherokee schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1967. Terry graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, where he worked in the Athletic Department as a student trainer. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 1974.
On August 4, 1968, Terry was united in marriage to Linda Hayden in Cherokee, IA. To this union one son was born, Michael Burkhart. After graduating from ASU Terry and Linda moved to LeMars, IA where Terry worked for Mid-Sioux Opportunities as the Director of Youth Programs in Remsen, IA. Terry and Linda returned to Cherokee in 1976 so he could work with his father and uncle at the B & H Feed Store. Terry owned and operated Shirt World for three years. He then retired to help care for ailing parents.
Terry was co-founder of the Cherokee POW-MIA Support Group. He loved sports, especially golf, bird watching, and fishing. Most of all, Terry enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
On Thursday, June 14, 2012 Terry passed away unexpectedly at his home. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Carvel and Bea Burkhart, his in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. M.D. Hayden, and his brother, Donald Burkhart in 1993.
Terry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Burkhart of Cherokee, IA; son, Michael Burkhart of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren Michael and Hannah Burkhart of Cherokee, IA; Kristina Dockery (Joel Richardson) of Marcus, IA; great- granddaughter Isabelle Richardson; Tommy Dockery and his fianc�, Katie Ehler and her daughter Mattea of Holstein, IA; one brother, Allen (Marilyn) Burkhart of Ft. Collins, CO; one sister, Joann Thompson and her significant other Al Howe of Drake, CO; sisters-in-law, Darlene Burkhart, Colorado Springs, CO; Dr. Patricia Harrison of Cherokee, IA and Connie (George) Cundy of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law, Michael (Linn) Hayden of Ankeny, IA; his very dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and many wonderful friends
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
