Ted Joseph Unkrur, the son of Frank and Lucy (Weber) Unkrur was born on July 1, 1932, in Rock Township, Cherokee County, IA. His childhood years were spent near Maryhill where he attended school. Following his education, Ted served with the United States Army from 1953-1955.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Ted worked a short time with his father on the farm. In 1956, he started farming on his own where he raised cattle, hogs, and sheep, along with custom corn shelling.
On January 7, 1961, Ted was united in marriage to Mary Ann Bjorkgren at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. They were blessed with twin girls, Pauline and Paulette.
Ted was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed playing cards, watching television, listening to music, camping, and square dancing. Most of all, Ted enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and working on the farm.
On October 3, 2014, Ted passed away at Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab in Aurelia, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucy Unkrur; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Steward and Dan Mummert; one sister-in-law, Diane Unkrur; one niece, Theresa Foote; and two nephews, Mike Steward and Dennis Peck.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Mary Ann Unkrur of Alta, IA; his two daughters: Pauline Unkrur of Cherokee, IA and Paulette (Van) Daniel of Red Oak, IA; one grandson, Joseph Daniel of Red Oak, IA; two sisters, Margaret Steward and her friend Eugene Ferris of Washta, IA, and Mary (Lester) Peck of Napa, ID; one brother, Leo Unkrur of Marcus, IA; one sister-in-law, Ruby Mummert of Omaha, NE; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday night at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Monday evening at the funeral home.
