Susan Kay (Lunders) Burns, age 73 of Marcus, IA and formerly Detroit, MI, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, IA. Father Timothy Pick will officiate. Burial will take place at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus, IA. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with family present on Thursday at Holy Name Church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Thursday, following visitation at the church. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Susan Lunders Burns, age 73 of Marcus, IA and formerly Detroit, MI, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. She was born on January 16, 1950, to Edward and Lenora (Miller) Lunders. She was raised on a farm south of Cleghorn, IA with 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1968. Susan married Tracy Burns in 1970, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, IA. They had one son, Billy Joe Burns.

After high school, Susan moved to Sioux City and worked at Sioux Tools for a couple years and then for Aalfs Manufacturing until 1988. Susan moved to Detroit, MI in 1989 to work in her sister Beverly’s assisted living care facility.

Susan loved shopping at thrift stores, playing card games, board games, puzzles, and traveling with her friends Trudy, Cefora, Corie, Cain, and Natalie. Her friends were fiercely loyal to Susan and loved her dearly.

Susan was preceded in death by her son, Billy Joe Burn; parents, Edward and Lenora (Miller) Lunders, a brother, LeRoy Lunders, two sisters, Marilyn Utesch and Dianne Honermann.

She will lovingly be remembered by 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Gerald (Kathy) Lunders of St. Louis, MO, Beverly (Bill) Montie of Detroit, MI, Connie Vaughn of Seattle, WA, Dale (Patty) Lunders of Cleghorn, IA, David (Susanne) Lunders of Kansas City, MO, and Loren Lunders of Le Mars, IA; Susan is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
