Steven Roy Hagan, the son of Gene and Wilma (Walters) Hagan, was born on October 6, 1956, in Spencer, Iowa. His family moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where he received his early education. They moved to Cherokee in 1973, where Steve completed his education. He attended NWIA Technical Institute, where he learned the welding trade.
He lived in Sheldon, Iowa for seven years, where he was employed at Rozeboom's. He also worked welding and construction in Kansas and Missouri before returning to Cherokee. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, fishing and camping. Other interests included antiques, reading, and hunting for asparagus.
Following a courageous battle with cancer, Steve passed away at Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa, on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the age of 55. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene, and brother, Rick.
Survivors include his mother, Wilma, of Cherokee; two daughters, Sara Stimac of Olathe, KS, and Melissa Hagan of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Robyn Bush and friend Rich, and Linda and her husband, Gary Simmons, all of Cherokee; a grandson, Gabe Stimac of Olathe, KS; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hagan of Syracuse, MO. Steve will also be fondly remembered by his many friends and acquaintances.
SERVICES
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date in the spring. Detail of the service will be released when everything is finalized.
