Stanley J. Sitzmann

Stanley Joseph Sitzmann, the son of Edward Sitzmann Sr. and Agnes (Carel) Sitzmann of 

Hinton, IA, was born on August 29, 1930. Stan was the 9th of 13 children. Ed Jr., Billy, Dale, Mary, Howard, Marjorie, Alfred, Paul, Jermaine, Annette, Alice. One sister, Joyce, passed in infancy. His childhood years were spent growing up on the family farm south of Neptune Church. He helped with farming chores. His early education was a one room school house where his mother taught for a while and later attended Trinity School in Sioux City.

He 1952 he entered the Army and served on the front line as an artillery gunman and later became a Sgt. during the Korean War. He married Louise Probst on August 23, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Church in LeMars. They raised 5 daughters: Susan Ammons (Apopka, FL), Mary Davis (Prescott Valley, AZ), Lisa Loucks (deceased), Brenda Ruppert (Sioux Falls, SD), LeAnn Parsons (Brandon, SD)

 He held various jobs in his early years of marriage including farming, silo building, welder and foreman at Lundell Manufacturing in Cherokee. He retired at an early age due to a blood clotting disorder. This opened his lifestyle to community service.

 Stanley worked part-time for the city of Cherokee, dragging the slow pitch ball fields, while running the concession stand and announcing the evening games.

Stanley got involved with the Head Start Program as the bus driver in 1972.

 His commitment to service and community included being a member of the Immaculate Conception Church with his wife Louise for 60 years, the VFW life member, Lion’s Club member 45 years, Knights of Columbus 3 terms Grand Knight, 1 term district deputy, National board member of Headstart for 4 years, PAL Club served 2 terms and starting up a Needy Children’s Auction to help clothe the children he drove to Head Start pre-school.  His auction had become a town tradition over the past 50 years. He loved dressing up as Santa during the Christmas season and always had homes to visit.

  He had always been a sportsman since his days at Trinity high in Sioux City; participating as a cheerleader as well as fast pitch softball and Golden Gloves boxing that he shared with his older brothers.  He began pitching for several fast pitch softball teams over a 20 year period.

His other hobbies included golfing, as a member of the Cherokee Country Club for 45 years, he won the club championship in 1984 and 1985. He also loved playing cards, fishing for bullheads, ice fishing and trapping.

 On November 26,2020, Stanley passed away at Cherokee Regional Medical Center, at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Sitzmann, his parents Edward Sr. and Agnes Sitzmann, his siblings  

Ed Jr., Billy, Dale, Mary, Howard, Marjorie, Alfred, Jermaine, and Annette; along with children Lisa Loucks and infant son Stanley Jr.

 He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Susan Ammons, Mary (Gene) Davis, Brenda (Martin) Ruppert, and LeAnn (Chuck) Parsons, brother Paul, sister Alice and grandchildren: Chris McManus, Aaron McManus, Abigail, Harding, Jake Leese, Jessica Warren, Allison Parsons, Clint Parsons, Brooke Eggars, Amanda Loucks, Chelsea Baker, Amber Loucks-Kankovsky, Michael Ruppert, and Cassandra Schock; along with 12 great-grandchildren.


In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA).
