Sandra “Sandi” Lynn Beals, age 74 of Cherokee, IA, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021. Visitation with the family present will be held at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral home from 10:30 am - noon on Saturday, April 24th. Graveside memorial services and inurnment will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake, IA at 1 pm. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
Sandra Lynn (McCabe) Beals, daughter of William F. and Lois (Booth) McCabe was born September 19, 1946, in Storm Lake, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Aurelia, IA, where she attended school and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1964. On April 24, 1971, she was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Karl Beals of Cherokee, IA at the Immaculate Conception Church. They spent their life together in Cherokee where they raised their children. Sandi worked her entire career in patient care at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for over 30 years until her retirement in 2001.
Sandi had many hobbies. She was an avid reader and rarely missed attending her weekly book groups. She loved attending events & performances by her children and grandchildren. She often attended social events like the Cherokee Jazz festival, Aurelia coffees, and class reunions. She also loved bird watching, learning about history and genealogy, but most of all, she cherished time spent with family and friends.
Sandi passed away with family at her side at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Karl Beals; her parents, William F. and Lois McCabe; and her father-in-law Joseph J. Beals.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Linda (Jeff) Ducommun of Larrabee, IA, Karla (Brandon) Frehse of Everly, IA, and Joseph W. Beals (wife Jamie Wilger) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kyler and Kylah Ducommun and William and Walker Frehse; sisters, Vicki (Tom) Griffin of Seattle, WA, and Toni (Phil) Spady of Bellevue, WA; mother-in-law, Bertie Beals of Cherokee, IA; sister-in-law, Shirley (Randy) Kirchner; and other family and friends.
