Sally Henke

Marcella Magdalene (Theisen) Henke, the daughter of John and Anna (Ruden) Theisen, was born January 29, 1925, in Farley, Iowa. The family moved to Le Mars, Iowa, and Sally attended St. Joseph School. She received her GED in 1974. On January 7, 1948, Sally was united in marriage to Richard Henke in Oyens, Iowa. The couple farmed west of Cherokee. During the early years of their marriage, Sally devoted her time to taking care of her home and managing the busy lives of their eight children. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cards, dancing, and loved to cook and bake for her family. Her banana bread and cranberry rolls were always a hit. She kept up on politics and worked the election polls. Throughout the years, she enjoyed attending the many activities of her grandchildren. The highlight for Sally each year was attending the annual family picnic. She was a member of the I.C. Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America,and a volunteer at the Cherokee County Fair for many years. On June 1, 2015, Sally passed away at Country Side Estates in Cherokee. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Reynold Theisen; three sisters, Shirley Gengler, Lois Theisen and Therry Weiler. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Richard; Rick (Susan) Henke of Rochester, IL, Dennis (Carolyn) Henke of Waterloo, IA, Karen Henke of Omaha, NE, Darwin (Carmen) Henke of Cherokee, IA, Duane (Marcia) Henke of Larrabee, IA, Konnie (Wally) Leonard of Cherokee, IA, Kim (Grant) Thompson of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Dan (Kathy) Henke of Rowlett, TX; 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cyril (Helen) Theisen of Remsen, IA, and Ivan (Yvonne) Theisen of Marcus, IA; a sister, Rita McCarty of Spencer, IA; two sisters-in-law, Joan Cronin of Marcus and Rita Theisen of Canby, MN; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. The Catholic Daughters will recite the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00, and a prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
