Rosemary T. Lux

Rosemary (Rose) Theresa Steichen Lux was born in 1924 on a farm near Alton, IA to Nichols and Mary (Henricy) Steichen. Rose grew up on the farm with 9 half and 11 full brothers and sisters. Rose met her spouse, Orman Lux at the Avalon Ballroom in Remsen, IA, dancing to Lawrence Welk during the turmoil's of WW II. Rose married Orman in 1943. Rose subsequently followed Orman, to the Navy training center at Great Lakes Naval training in Waukegan, IL. Then Rose went on to San Diego, CA with Orman, where he shipped out to the South Pacific during WW II. Following WW II, Rose and Orman had three sons; Allan, Steven and Kenneth. Rose worked during the early years caring for and supporting the three boys. Rose worked mostly at domestic jobs such as cleaning, waitressing, and cooking. Her favorite occupation was cooking. Rose was well noted for her home made bread, cinnamon rolls and apple pie. Rose was also an accomplished crotchetier. Over the years Rose has made many beautiful dollies, hankies, pillow cases and occasionally blankets. Rose also had a passion for collecting ceramic frogs and had accumulated quite a collection over the years. Rose throughout her time in Iowa always looked for new opportunities and greener pastures. Rose was never afraid to move and pursue those opportunities. Rose and the three boys lived in Quimby, Jefferson, Bayard, Coon Rapids, Remsen, and Cedar Rapids for varying lengths of time. It was always Rose's dream to own and operate her own restaurant, so after the three boys went out on their own, Rose bought a caf�-motel complex west of Cedar Rapids. Rose managed the motel and cooked at the restaurant for 5 years. Rose still not being content, decided to move once again to Denver, Colorado, which she then called her home for the next 30 years. Rose loved the mountains and the fresh air that was Colorado. Rose passed away at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, KS on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the age of 89. Rose is survived by her 3 three boys: Allan Lux, Steven and Olene Lux, Ken and Francis Lux: grandson Todd and Chrissie Lux: two great grand-daughters Jessica and Sara. In lieu of flowers if you wish to make a donation in Rose's name, the family suggests that memorials be sent to: Villa St. Francis, 16600 West 126th Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Villa St. Francis is the Catholic Skilled Nursing Center that cared for Rose.
