Roseanna Pearl (Heistand) Damrau, the daughter of Bert and Jennie (Benscoater) Heistand, was born near Little Sioux, Iowa on October 10, 1919. She attended the local schools, and graduated from Little Sioux High School.
On September 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Walter Damrau. They lived and farmed in the Peterson and Sutherland, Iowa areas. In addition to caring for their two children, Duane and Judy, Roseanna loved helping Walt on the farm. She also worked for a time at Alf's Manufacturing in Spencer, Iowa, and at the Ben Franklin store in Cherokee. After Walt passed away in 1986, she remained on the farm until 1990, when she moved to Meriden, Iowa to be closer to her family.
Roseanna was an active and energetic person who loved to keep herself busy. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles. She had the gift of entertaining and delighted in setting a fancy table with her good dishes. She loved reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. She was an excellent cook-some of her specialties being her famous sugar cookies, potato salad and apple pie. A highlight for her each year was a trip to the apple orchards at Mondamin, Iowa. It was a chance for her to return to the area where she grew up and to choose some apples for her pies. She collected teacup and saucer sets, with more than 100 in her collection. Meeting with her Wednesday morning coffee group in Meriden was always a special time for Roseanna. She was an avid Alan Jackson fan. Nothing pleased her more than spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Sutherland United Methodist Church.
Roseanna passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walt; son Duane in 1970; three brothers, Glenn, Dale and Carl; and one sister, Wilma.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy and her husband, Walt Gordon of Meriden; her granddaughters and their families: Kimberly and her husband, Nathan Galles and their children, Jacob, Avery and Grant of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Angela Meredith and friend, Corey Bundt, and her children, Dylan and Emma of Lakeview, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Heistand of Onawa, Iowa and Fern Damrau of Sioux City, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
