Ronald K. Witcombe

Ronald K. Witcombe the son of John and Ethel (Lint) Witcombe, was born May 6, 1942, in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1961. In this time, he enjoyed playing football and hanging out with his friends. Shortly after graduation, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for four and a half years, during which time, he served as a cook/chef, from California to Vietnam and back.

On February 18, 1967, Ron was united in marriage to Janice Corrington at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Cherokee, IA where they have made their home for over 56 years. In 1969 the couple welcomed their daughter Lori Lee. Ron was proud to have worked for the City of Cherokee for over 38 years spending most of his time in the Wastewater & Water Plant Departments.

After retirement Ron enjoyed golf, mowing the neighborhood lawns with his Green Bay Packer John Deere yard tractor, and watching sports. More specifically he loved cheering for his Packers, Dodgers, and Celtics. Most of all, Ron enjoyed the view from his porch and the countless hours spent out there visiting with family and friends.

On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Ron passed away at his home at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Witcombe; brother, Howard “Tiny” (Jane) Witcombe; sister-in-law, Marlene Witcombe; brother-in-law, Robert “Curly” Corrington; and one nephew, Shawn Witcombe.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Janice Witcombe of Cherokee, IA; daughter, Lori (Greg) Solsaa, and their daughter, Josi of Watertown, SD; one brother, Don Witcombe of Cherokee, IA; brothers-in-law, Mike (Mary) Corrington of Perry, OK, and Doug (Stacey) Corrington of Hastings, MN; one niece, and several nephews; other relatives and many friends.
