Ronald LeRoy Sechler, the son of Roy and Fern (Moody) Sechler, was born in Meriden, Iowa on January 20, 1933. His childhood years were spent in Meriden, and he graduated from Meriden High School in 1951. During the Korean conflict, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Gunner on a B29.
He was united in marriage to Edith Gronemeyer in LeMars, Iowa on June 15, 1957. He entered into a partnership with his brother Don, and worked as a mechanic at their business, Sechler's Garage in Meriden. A community-minded individual, Ron was involved with the VFW and American Legion, was a member of the 98th Bomb Group Veteran's Association, the Meriden Fire Department and City Council, where he once served as City Clerk. He drove school bus for the school districts in Meriden, Cleghorn and Marcus for 40 years. He enjoyed shooting pool and riding his motorcycle with the Goldwing Road Riders and Retreads. He was a member of the Western Iowa Cycle Riders and the NRA.
Ron passed away at the Cherokee Regional Health Center on Sunday, April 7, 2013, surrounded by his family at the age 80.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Edie; a son, Todd and his wife Mary, and daughter Ronda and her husband, Charles Wiemold, all of Cherokee; four grandchildren, Angie (Bruce) Demaree and their children Elijah, Elizabeth and Elliot; Amber Renken and her children Mia and Ally; Jeff and Whitney Wiemold; one brother, Donald Sechler of Meriden, IA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeffrey in 1979; one sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Donald Mongan; and one sister-in-law, Ellie Sechler.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
