Ron Roy Rickett

October 9, 1937 — April 13, 2015

Ronald Roy Rickett was born in Kingsley, Iowa on October 9, 1937, the son of George and Susie (Monkton) Rickett. He attended school until hard times forced him to devote his time to helping the family make ends meet. He later served his country as a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Helen Goettsch on June 15, 1957. The couple enjoyed attending dances in the area, and especially loved doing the Jitterbug. Their family eventually grew to include five children: DeAnna, Marsha, Kendall, Suzanne and Cheryl. For several years, Ron was employed as a hired hand for various farmers. He also spent time as a cabdriver and a trucker. He worked on a road construction crew that was responsible for completing I-29 to Omaha, NE, and his children recall how proud he was to take them on a trip down that road when it was finished. They also remember the many camping and fishing trips their dad took them on. For the past several years, Ron has tended the gardens and orchards for Lundquist Orchards. He has spent countless hours growing vegetables, harvesting the apple and grape crops, and preparing the produce for sale at the farmer's market. He took great pride in learning all he could about gardening, and worked 'from sun-up to sundown' to grow the best vegetables in the area. Ron passed away at his home in Cherokee on Monday, April 13, 2015, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and a sister, Rosie Pecha. Survivors include his children: DeAnna Hardisty, Marsha Rickett, Kendall Rickett (Syndy Crooks), all of Sioux City, IA, Suzanne (Wayne) Davis of Aranas Pass, TX, and Cheryl (Tim) Linafelter of Waterbury, NE; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Walt (Betty) Rickett of Kingsley, IA; 2 sisters, Hilda Benjamin of Park Rapids, MN, and Joyce Pecha of Omack, WA.
