Ron Hicks Good

On Thursday, August 22, 2019, Ronald “Ron” Hicks Good of rural Meriden, IA, loving husband, father of one son, and 2 grand-dogs, passed away at the age of 65 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Ron was born on August 11, 1954 in Cherokee, IA to William and Mildred (Leonard) Good.  He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, IA  in 1973.  After high school Ron traveled to the west and east coast seeing friends and gained experience as a welder.  Returning back to Cherokee he worked as a welder at Lindell MFG, but was injured by a piece of a red hot welded slag that fell into his work boot.  He then worked 10+ years at Wilson Food and after having surgery on both of his wrists for carpal tunnel syndrome he had his continuing education provided for. He went to college at 35 at NWIC for their Industrial Wiring program.  After graduating in 1991, he worked as a journeyman for Carrington Electric in Storm Lake, IA. He then decided to start his own business, Good Electric for the next 20 years.  On July 30^th, 1983 he married Kathleen Roethler and raised her son Jamie as his own. 

Ron always said he was “hatched a Hawk”, any time the Iowa Hawkeyes played you could expect to find him in front of a television some place cheering them on.  He had a quick wit and would liven up any room he walked into.  He loved to fish and was an avid music lover.  

 Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill and Mildred, his sister and brother, Audrey Nelson and Craig Good.  He is survived by his wife Kathy of rural Meriden, IA and son Jamie (Tanya) Roethler of Dubuque, IA, brother Lewis Good (Tom Bolbach) of Belleville, IL, sister Sharleen (Dale) Downing of Lake City, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
