Roger Allan Mischke, the son of Hazel (Oliver) and Reuben Mischke, was born on May 9, 1936, in Grand Rapids, MN. His childhood years were spent in Minnesota. He attended both country and public schools, and graduated from Grand Rapids High School.
He went to work in the iron mines in northern Minnesota, retiring in 1998, after 32 years in the business. He met his future bride, Alice M. Daniels, while she was teaching school in Remer , MN. The two married in 1995. Following Alice's retirement from teaching in 1998, they made their home in Meriden, Iowa.
Roger and Alice traveled extensively throughout the world. They spent their winters in McAllen, TX. He was an avid reader who especially loved history and shooting magazines. His fascination with shooting led to his involvement in the NRA, ILA, Pharr, TX Rifle & Pisto Club, IA Sportsman's Club, IDPA, Sass Cowboy Shooting, Encows, Little Sioux Wildlife Assoc., and the Western Iowa Boarder Agents. He had been a member of the Elks Club and the Eagles' Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, riding motorcycle, and Country & Western dancing.
On Sunday, January 15, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer, Roger passed away at his home in Meriden. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Russell Mischke, and one son, Keith Mischke.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Daniels of Meriden; son Roger R. (Tina) Mischke of Grand Rapids, MN; step-children, Dennis (Padomina) Lougee, of Grand Rapids, MN, Thomas (Michelle) Rehder of Eau Clair, WI, and Julie Weiner (friend Jim) of Lincoln, NE; a brother, Gorden Mischke, of Phoenix, AZ;one sister, Darlene Torkkla and special friend Ken of Lake Stevens, WA; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; in-laws, Robert & Tess Weins of Bel Plaine, IA, Palmer & Ruth Hanson, Kenneth & Joan Anderson, Judy Wagner, and Jane Weins, all of Cherokee, IA, Dorothy Westphal and Dennis & Patty Anderson, all of Larrabee, IA; and Rose & Jim Osterquist of Altoona, IA; a special cousin, Pat McCarren of Pengilly, MN; other relatives and friends.
