Rodney Earl Maffin was born February 9, 1934 in Calumet, Iowa to Howard William and Viola Catherine (Jurgensen) Maffin and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on September 16, 2012 at the age of 78 years, 7 months, 7 days. Rodney was a 1952 graduate of Cherokee High School in Cherokee, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ann (Roepke) Maffin on September 10, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. They owned and operated the Victory Cleaners and Laundry in Cherokee for over 30 years. Rodney worked as a Security Guard at Wilson Foods in Cherokee for 19 years and also worked for the Standard Oil Bulk Gas Company. In 1986 Rodney and Margaret moved to Seward, Nebraska where he was employed in Security with Concordia University for many years. Rodney was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Viola Maffin Davis; his stepfather, Russell Davis; and his wife, Margaret Maffin in 1993. Rodney is survived by his children and their spouses, Linn and Mike Hayden, Ankeny, IA, Jill and John Dushinske, Sandy, UT, Tracy Gravenish, Cherokee, IA, Dan Maffin, Seward, NE; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses, Gary and Charlotte Maffin, Twin Falls, ID, Charlie and Marilyn Maffin, Earlham, IA, Velda and Burt Faust, Paullina, IA, Doris and Chuck Carlson, Cherokee, IA, Mike and Cynthia Maffin, Spirit Lake, IA; half brother, Robert Maffin, Washington, DC; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Rodney.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 21, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
