Richard “Dick” Wright Anderson of Cherokee, Iowa went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2018.
Dick was born in Centerville, South Dakota on May 17, 1931. Dick married Marilyn Knudson on November 11, 1951. They were blessed with 60 wonderful years together. Dick served in the United States Marine Corp for two years. After his service, he graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dick worked for Wilson Foods for twenty years. Dick and Marilyn raised their sons, Dan and Scott, on a farm outside of Cherokee, Iowa. They were members of Oakdale Evangelical Free Church where he held many leadership positions.
In 1978, Dick and Marilyn moved to Kingsburg, California where they farmed fruit and grapes for twenty years. They were active members in the Kingsburg Evangelical Free Church. These years were special as they were surrounded by their children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Dick will be remembered for his adventuresome spirit, positive attitude, love for God and his family.
Upon retirement in 1998, they returned to Cherokee, Iowa, spending their winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Over the past several years, Dick deepened his relationship and drew his strength from Jesus Christ.
Dick is survived by his son, Scott (Carol) of Cherokee, IA; daughter-in-law, Marlys Anderson of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren: Dan Anderson Jr. (Melissa) of Cherokee, IA, Chantelle (Jared) Friedman of Sioux Falls, SD, Carlene Anderson of Pleasanton, CA; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Maddy, Lauren and Jacob Friedman, and Millie Anderson; sisters: Gayle (Duane) McCutchan of Reedley, CA, Bobbie (Ole) Trontvet of Fargo, ND, and Jane Hauser of Visalia, CA; sister-in-law, Anita Anderson of Kingsburg, CA, many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Anderson; son, Dan Anderson; grand-daughter, Brigitte Anderson and grandson, Tyler Anderson; parents, Rev. Clifford and Dorothy Anderson; brother, Cliff Anderson; and brother-in-law, Rev. Wayne Hauser.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, IA.
