Phoebe L. Mummert

April 21, 1910 — February 8, 2012

Phoebe (McTasney) (Lee) Mummert was born April 21, 1910 in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where she attended the Immaculate Conception School. On May 19, 1927, she was united in marriage to William Lee. They lived in Odebolt and Ida Grove, IA, before settling in Cherokee. They were blessed with two sons, Ken and Bill . During her working years, Phoebe was employed at Coon's Jewelry in Cherokee, as well as Ellerbroek's Clothing--a business she eventually owned and operated. She also worked at Lee's Hardware. Phoebe's husband William died in 1967. Three years later, she married Karl Mummert, and moved to Aurelia. Following Karl's death , she returned to Cherokee where she lived until her own death on February 8, 2012-just shy of her 102nd birthday. Phoebe was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Cherokee Villa Auxiliary, Pilot Pals, Happy Hookers, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, fishing, and eating out with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Lee and Karl Mummert; her son Kenneth; grandson, Patrick Lee; two brothers, Merle and Chet McTasney; and sister, Katherine Nordquist. She is survived by her son Bill and his wife, Linda Lee, and daughter-in-law, Molly Lee, all of Cherokee; her grandchildren: Nancy (Lee) and Brent Hofer, Tom and Maureen Lee, Wendy (Lee) and Ken Nelson, Shawn Lee, Bob and Donna Lee, Matt Lee, David and Bethany Lee; 12 great-grandchildren; her step-children, Roger and Barb Mummert, Tom and Karla McCleery, and Arlo and Marlys Riessen; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a rosary starting at 4:00 P.M. Sunday by the Catholic Daughters. There will also be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
