Paul Anthony Lux

     Paul Anthony Lux, son of Maydar and Anna (Henke) Lux was born in Cherokee on March 25, 1936.  He lived his entire life on the Lux Century farm west of Cherokee.  He attended Maryhill Catholic School and later graduated from IC School in 1955, where he was an avid basketball player.  He spent his younger years on the farm, learning and working alongside his dad.  After high school, Paul enlisted in the National Guard for 2 years, and has spent the rest of his life farming.

     On November 26, 1960, Paul married Nyla King in Storm Lake, Iowa.  They lived at the family farm where they raised 3 children.  Paul spent the next 60 years building his farm and his family; raising cattle, hogs, corn and soybeans.  He was a lovingly devoted husband and father who took great pride in being a family man.  He was one of those rare famers who started his day long before the sun came up and ended it late into the night hours.  Farming was who Paul Lux was.

     Paul was a member of the Maryhill and IC parishes. He will always be remembered for his love of his family and farming, raising cattle, hunting, fishing, his love of farm sales, playing cards and his collection of John Deere items.  Paul loved refurbishing antique tractors to mint condition and driving them in local parades.  He drove in his last parade this summer at the Marcus fair and farmed up until this last November.  Paul enjoyed many years of raising and training his hunting dogs and was known for many practical jokes and shenanigans (which he passed on to Kevin and Devin).  He had a very generous heart when it came to supporting the grandkids in their sporting events, as well as being a faithful contributor to the Cystic Fibrosis and American Heart Associations.

     Paul passed away at the age of 82.  He was preceded in death by his parents Maydar & Anna Lux, his wife of 53 years Nyla,  a grandson Brendan Lux, brothers Orman & Floyd Lux,  sister Mary Lou Wiemold,  and nephew Brett Henry.

     He will be missed by many, but especially his children; Lynn Rochelle Williams of Cherokee; Paula (James) Hoy of Sioux Falls, SD; and Kevin (Carrie) Lux of Cherokee.  He leaves eight grandkids who thought the world of their “Grampa on the Farm”; Amber (Weston) Shupe, Kayla (Richard) Daniel, Lindsay Williams, Heather Hoy and, Devin, Christa, Aleah & Brielle Lux along with three great granddaughters; Alayna & Maddy Shupe and Macy Daniel.  He is also survived by his siblings Francis Ann Rupp and Joe Lux along with many nieces and nephews. 

     In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in Paul’s name directed to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Make a Wish Foundation.
