Patricia Wilkie

Patricia Alice (Campbell) Wilkie, the daughter of Mary Ellen (Jenkins) and John T. Campbell, was born in Cherokee, IA, on March 10, 1923. She attended the local Catholic school, and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. She lived and worked in Lincoln, NE for a short while, and then moved back to Cherokee, where she worked at the F.W. Woolworth store. On November 23, 1948, Pat was united in marriage to George G. Wilkie, in Templeton, IA. They settled on a farm near Larrabee, IA. Pat kept very busy as a farm wife and mother of their three sons, Fred, Bill and Tom. She had a large garden, and canned almost everything she harvested. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens. She loved to do cross-stitch, knitting, embroidery and quilting. She gave away countless quilts, dishtowels and other handmade items. She was an avid sports fan. She and George faithfully supported the local Cherokee baseball teams, and were once given the 'game ball' in appreciation of their loyal support. She loved Iowa Hawkeye basketball. She enjoyed golfing, playing Bridge and other card games. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Following George's retirement in 2005, the couple moved into Cherokee. George passed away on January 16, 2009. Pat remained at home in Cherokee until her health began to fail, and she became a resident at the Country Side Estates Nursing Home in March of 2012. She was reunited with George, Fred, Bill and Tom on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sons; three sisters; one brother; three other siblings in infancy and childhood. She is survived by two grandsons, Curtis Wilkie and Kyle Wilkie and his wife, Kelly, all of Cherokee; three great-grandchildren, Britney, Bailey and Bryer; a daughter-in-law, Carol Wilkie of Cherokee; one brother, Tom Campbell and his wife, Tomeline, of Ione, CA; several nieces, and nephews, other relatives and friends.
