Otto Frangenberg was born on March 19, 1910, in Leonore, Illinois. He was the 9th of 14 children born to Katherine (Tutschin) and William Frangenberg, When Otto was 4 years old, the family boarded a train and moved to Iowa, where they spent 6 years in Anthon, and another 6 years in Merrill before settling on a farm near Marcus in 1926. Otto helped his family on the farm, and was later hired on to help other area farmers.
On June 6, 1938, he married Pearl Heinis at Holy Name Catholic Church. They farmed near Marcus. They were blessed with three children, Connie, Ed and Mary Beth. Otto dedicated himself to farming. Although he and Pearl moved into town in 1952, he continued to help with the farm operation--still hauling grain at the age of 95. When their physical health began to fail, the couple moved to the Heartland Care Center in 2010. Otto passed away there on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at the age of 102. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: William, Fred, Henry, Edmund, Anthony and George; seven sisters: Sister Sophia, Frances, Elnora, Anne, Agnes, Bernadine and Catherine; a son-in-law, Larry Haack, and daughter-in-law, Jerri Frangenberg.
