Nyla Jean (King) Lux, the daughter of Allan and Irene (Swanger) King, was born in Anthon, IA on June 24, 1938. Her childhood years were spent at Cleghorn, IA; She graduated from Alta High School in 1956. During her high school years, she worked at A. W. Woolworth, Arrow Theatre and enjoyed babysitting. After graduation, she worked at the Cherokee County Assessor's office. After moving to Boulder, CO, she worked in the business office at the telephone company. When she returned, she worked at the Storm Lake business office.
On November 26, 1960, Nyla was united in marriage to Paul Lux in Storm Late, IA. She worked at the telephone company until starting her family in 1962. She was a devoted farmer's wife who prided herself in preparing at least two hot meals each day for 'the men' on the farm. She lived her entire life for her family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her husband, kids and grandkids. She followed the kids' activities, loved getting to know their friends, and was truly interested in their day to day lives. A phrase commonly heard out of the mouths of the grandkids was 'I'm just hanging with Gramma'.
Nyla enjoyed her cardinal and Elvis collections, shopping locally, baking, sending greeting cards, having coffee with friends, watching her birds and squirrels, and keeping up to date with the latest fashions and trends. She will always be remembered for her huge heart, beautiful smile, and her witty remarks that left countless people laughing. She was a member of the Maryhill and IC Parishes. She donated her time to helping find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and Heart Disease.
She passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center on Monday, January 6, 2014, at age 75. She was preceded in death by her fathers, Allan King and Charles Pfalzgraf, her mother, Irene, an infant sister, Donna Marie, and infant grandson, Brendan Lux, and a nephew, Brett Henry.
