Norris Everett Torbensen

April 9, 1941 — September 28, 2016

Norris Everett Torbensen, the son of Martin and Dagmar (Sorenson) Torbensen was born April 9, 1941, in Moorhead, IA. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Moorhead where he attended country school and graduate from Moorhead High School. After his schooling, Norris worked as a farm hand in Iowa and Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Hazel Moore on November 17, 1962 in Moorhead, IA. They moved to Cherokee, IA in 1971 and he worked for Love Tire Shop for 16 years. He then managed the Cherokee Firestone for four years, before working for R.J Thomas for many years until his retirement. Norris was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee and the Red Power Tractor Club. He enjoyed attending to his flowers and waterfall in his back yard, tinkering with his 1958 Farmall tractor, and having his daily coffee time with his friends. Norris was also a wonderful wood craftsman and built intricate scale model wood toy tractors, cars, and machinery. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. On September 28, 2016, Norris passed away at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Dagmar Svend, his wife Hazel Torbensen, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his two daughters, Julie (Scott) Sanford of Sioux City, IA, and Cindy (Dennis) Thorp of Meriden, IA; granddaughters, Rachel Sanford of Sioux City, IA, and Michelle (fianc� Gregg Johnson) Cobb of Peterson, IA; two great-granddaughters, Jenna and Kami Cobb of Peterson, IA; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa
