Norman E. Moon

Norman Eugene Moon was born on October 19, 1932, at St. Lawrence, South Dakota to V.A. "Art" and Viola (Turner) Moon. He graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1950. On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wanelda Slunecka (of Miller, SD) at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. Following four years of military service, he began employment as an area cattle buyer for Armour and Co., in Huron, SD. In 1970, he began working for Iowa Beef Processors, in the same capacity. His work took the family to homes in Yankton, SD, Mason City, IA, Council Bluffs, IA, and to Cherokee in 1972. He retired in 1995. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight, State Deputy, and Faithful Navigator. He was a former member of the A.H.A. Board and served as chairman. Norm truly enjoyed spending time with his family and was a faithful supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events and other activities over the years. He was a people person, who enjoyed "coffee-ing" and an occasional card game, playing golf, walking, watching college football and basketball, and earlier on, dancing was a favorite pastime. On May 6, 2013, Norm passed away unexpectedly at his home at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanelda Moon of Cherokee; one son and three daughters: Joe (Kris) Moon of Storm Lake, Lori (David) Fordyce, Julie (Tom) Bohnenkamp both of Aurelia, and LaNae (Joe) Ceryanec of Des Moines; nine grandchildren: Eric (Erin) Sonksen of Johnston, Megan Ceryanec, of London, UK, John Fordyce, of Chicago, IL, Michael Ceryanec of Chicago, IL, Tim Fordyce of Davenport, Emily Sonksen and fianc� Kolin of West Des Moines, Matthew Ceryanec of Iowa City, Lexi Moon of Storm Lake, and Tyler Moon of Storm Lake; three step-grandchildren: Tony Bohnenkamp of Des Moines, Kristin (Travis) Busby of Grimes, and Matt (Andrea) Bohnenkamp of Bondurant; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Roy McKown of Hot Springs, SD; a sister-in-law, Arlene Clark of Richardson, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Eugene in 1960; a brother, Vince Moon and his wife Marge; a sister, Ardith McKown; a sister-in-law, Audrey Dean and a brother-in-law, Everett Clark.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday night at Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 7P.M. prayer service Wednesday, at the funeral home with a Knights of Columbus Rosary to follow.

Mt. Calvary Cemetery Cherokee, Iowa Military services will be provided by the Cherokee V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post 2253.
