Myrtle M. Nixon

Myrtle M. Nixon, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Hopkins) Sapp, was born June 21, 1928, in Albany, NE. Her childhood years were spent in Nebraska where she attended school. Her family moved to Riverton, Iowa in 1934, where she went to school and worked at Simpson Caf� in Shenandoah, IA where she helped peel potatoes. Myrtle enjoyed working indoors and taking care of her younger brother, Glenn. On May 1, 1946, Myrtle was united in marriage to Monas Nixon in Hiawatha, KS, and to this union five children were born: Clark, Byron, Roger, Brian, and Karen. Myrtle worked as a homemaker where she helped raise their children. She also sold cosmetics for Avon. Myrtle enjoyed reading books, cooking, and baking. Most of all, she loved being around her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On December 29, 2010, Myrtle passed away at Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ruth Sapp; one son, Roger Nixon; her spouse, Monas Nixon; one granddaughter, Brooke Goetzinger; one sister, Margie Vickers; and one brother. She is survived by four children: Clark Nixon and his wife Rose of Cherokee, IA, Byron Nixon of Sunnyvale, CA, Brian Nixon of Culver City, CA, and Karen Goetzinger and her husband Michael of Martin, SD; one brother, Glenn Sapp of West Buro, MO; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.
