Morey Allen Carlson, the son of Donald “Butch” and Margaret (Lentz) Carlson was born November 8, 1961 in Cherokee, IA. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School in 1980. After high school, he attended college in Ames, IA for a short time and then moved back home to farm with his father.
On April 7, 1989, Morey was united in marriage to Chris Olson in Cherokee. He continued farming and worked for Guaranteed Gutter for several years. In 2000, he went to work at Grundman Hicks Construction and had been there until his passing.
Morey was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and listening to Ted Nugent music. He loved the outdoors whether he was hunting or tending to his garden. He was known for being handyman who could fix just about anything. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
On Sunday, July 21, 2019, Morey passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his father, Butch Carlson.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Chris Carlson of Cherokee, IA; children, Nathan Carlson of Cherokee, IA, and Megan (Alex) Struck of Le Mars, IA; six brothers: Andy (Patti) Carlson, Tim Carlson, Barry (Lisa) Carlson, Dana (Debbie) Carlson all of Cherokee, IA, Evan (Debbie) Carlson of White Fish, MT, and Paul (Melinda) Carlson of South Sioux City, NE; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.
