Michael Lee Hanson was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on March 9, 1951, to Kenneth and Mary (Delperdang) Hanson. He was active in church, serving as an usher and singing in the choir. He was a strong supporter and volunteer at the Cherokee Food Bank. Mike was very proud of his apple orchard, and loved giving away apples. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or spending time with his Golden Retrievers, Lucy and Sadie. He took several hunting trips to Wyoming.
Mike passed away at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Jenks; his parents; and two brothers, Raymond Hanson and Robert Hanson.
Survivors include one son, Lee Hanson of Cherokee; three sisters: Anne (Ray) Newman of Sioux City, IA, Mary Lou (Albin) Carlson of Cherokee, and Sharon (Joel) Grauer of Silver City, IA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hanson of Marcus, IA, and Rosella Hanson of Cherokee; his girlfriend, Patty Garriott of Cherokee; many nieces, nephews and cousins, other family and friends.
