Melinda Rae Winchell, the daughter of Robert and Shirley (Oentrich) Zembsch, was born April 22, 1961, in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where she received her education and graduated from Washington High School in 1980.
She was united in marriage to Patrick Winchell on June 19, 1982. With Pat being in the Air Force, they lived in several different states. Melinda worked for several different military commissaries and held many different positions from produce manager to meat cutter. Her most rewarding job was being a mom and caregiver to her two sons, Daniel and Chris.
Melinda was a devoted wife and mother. She loved helping others and was always the first one to send a holiday card to let you know that she was thinking of you, no matter what holiday. She was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan and through her health woes was thrilled to be able to watch them with the World Series. She also was big fan of the Golden Knights hockey team. Melinda was a patriotic person and loved her country. She was a great baker, especially her cakes, and always cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
On Friday, March 18, Melinda passed away at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX at the age of 60. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Shirley Zembsch; and her father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Patty Winchell.
