Mary 'Tiny' Gill

Mary Voneta 'Tiny' Gill, the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Munster) Gordon was born on September 12, 1929, at Cherokee, IA. She attended school and graduated from Meriden High School in 1947. While in high school she ran track, played basketball, and helped lead her team to a state tournament that year. On October 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to James Gill at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Mary enjoyed working at Kenny's Korner in Meriden for many years alongside her brother Kenny Gordon. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, scrapbooking, helping with sermons-ala-carte,especially loved doing family history, visiting with friends, and spending time with her family. She was a faithful supporter of her grand and great-grandchildren's sporting events and other activities over the years. On November 10, 2013, Mary passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 84. She is survived by her son Gregory (Lorri) Gill of Meriden, IA; three daughters: Georgia Gill of Meriden, IA, Gloria (Larry) Fortner of Sun City, AZ, and Gayle (Kenny) George of Meriden, IA; 5 grandchildren Renee and Clint Von Glan of Vail, IA, Ryan and Billie George of Kailua, Hawaii, Jonathan and Carolina George of Omaha, NE Katie Gill and Gordon Gill of Sioux City, IA; 6 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Cody, and Tyson Von Glan, and Kemper, Toby, and Tate George. She is also survived by two sisters, Mabel Parrott of Aurelia, IA, and Betty Curry of Florida; two brothers, William (Cheryl) Gordon of Cherokee, IA, and Walter (Judy) Gordon of Meriden, IA; one sister-in-law, Donna (Robert) Wilkie of Cherokee, IA; several nieces and nephews; along with special friends Martha Bennett of rural Meriden, IA, Lance and Rosie Shafer of Meriden, IA, and Sherri Robinson of Cleghorn, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel Gordon; husband James Gill in 1988; two brothers, Kenneth and Vernon Gordon; her twin sister, Mary Boneta (Bonnie) Lavin; brothers-in-law, Robert Parrott, Lyle Lavin, Lyle Curry; and one sister-in-law, Betty Lou Gordon.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.
