Mary was born on August 3, 1912 in Cherokee, IA to William and Ella (Mongan) Dreyer. Mary grew up in the Cherokee and Aurelia area graduating from Aurelia. She worked at Kruses Mercantile Store while living in Aurelia.
Mary married LeRoy Johnson February 21, 1940 in Storm Lake, IA. They farmed in the Cherokee area until LeRoy's retirement. During their marriage, Mary worked at Woolworths Dime Store. She was known as one of the original Woolworth girls. After Woolworths closed, she went to work for Ben Franklins until it closed.
After retiring, Mary started making crafts. She enjoyed making stuffed animals for many years. She also made a lot of embroidered dish towels. Mary's interests also included flower gardening and playing cards. Mary had no children but enjoyed all her nieces and nephews who loved her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy and one brother, Frank Dreyer of Cherokee; five sisters: Ruth Dreyer, Esther Mahler, Lucille Jones, Pauline Duvall, and Clara Otto all of Cherokee.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November, 23 2009, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA.
