Mary Elizabeth Dunn, the daughter of James and Ardythe (Schaller) Dunn, was born in Cherokee, IA, on October 2, 1959. She grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School. She then attended Iowa Lakes Community College. She spent the majority of her working career as a pharmacy technician at Valley Pharmacy in Cherokee. She was most recently employed as an administrative assistant at the Cherokee County Extension Office. Through this position, Mary had become active with 4-H and Cherokee County Fair projects. She enjoyed doing crafts, reading, and tackling landscaping projects in her yard. She loved vacations with her family and "girlfriend weekends". She was a proud grandma who loved having her grandchildren around. She also dedicated her time as a foster parent by taking kids into her home and caring for them as long as she was needed. Mary passed away unexpectedly at her home in Cherokee on Monday, November 2, 2015, at age 56. She was preceded in death by her father, James Dunn, her grandparents, a niece and a nephew. She is survived by her mother, Ardythe Dunn of Cherokee; two daughters, Amber Renken (Mike Shriver) of Cherokee, and Angie (Bruce) Demaree, currently of Layton, UT; her five grandchildren who ADORED her: Elijah, Elizabeth, Elliot, Mia and Ally; her siblings: Diane (Gary) Swanson of Sioux City, IA, Jim (Karen) Dunn of Cody,WY, Debbie (Cliff) Meylor of Sioux City, IA, and Mark (Shari) Dunn of Cherokee; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Services for Mary will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
