Marilyn Jean Leinbaugh, the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Strother) Davis was born March 10, 1930, at Sac City, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Sac City where she attended school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1948. Marilyn received her college education at Buena Vista University where she earned a B.A. in education.
After her schooling, Marilyn taught in Newell for several years before moving to Cherokee in 1965 to continue her teaching career. Marilyn loved being a teacher and the friendships she made along the way. After a career that spanned over 40 years, Marilyn retired in 1991.
On July 26, 1974, Marilyn was united in marriage to Jack Leinbaugh in Cherokee. Following their marriage they resided in Cherokee and spent many happy winters together in Mesa, AZ.
Marilyn was an active member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing her flute, exercising, watching football, and reading. She was also active in numerous women's organizations over the years including A.A.U.W., P.E.O., and Tri T. Most of all she cherished the times she shared with family and friends.
On May 6, 2015, Marilyn passed away unexpectedly at her home at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Leinbaugh in 2011; her parents, Fred and Margaret Davis; one brother, James Davis; one sister, Judy Rehms; and one son, Scott Carlson.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children: Steve (Carol) Carlson of Needham, MA, Diane (Gary) Chu of Racine, WI, Jane (Jeff) Peters of Yuma, AZ, James (Patty) Leinbaugh of Spirit Lake, IA, Julie (Bob) Eickey of Bradgate, IA, Jeanie Leinbaugh of Phoenix, AZ, Janel (Mark) Boever of Worthington, MN, and John (Susan) Leinbaugh of Plano, TX; three grandchildren: Katherine, Kristina, and Brianna; many step-grandchildren; and her circle of friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee.
