Margery Aldean Smith Bindner, age 95, died on May 24th at Heartland Care Center in Marcus following a long illness. She was the daughter of Norman Jay and Winifred Lucile Skean Smith., born on December 18, 1916 in the family home south of Marcus, IA. Margery attended country school and graduated from Marcus High School in 1934. Following graduation she attended NBT, Iowa State College, and then Midwest College and worked jobs at the Marcus News, Swanson Grocery Store and Earl May Nursery in Cherokee before marrying George Peter Bindner on February 5, 1938 at Holy Name Chapel in Marcus, IA. Margery and George started farming between Remsen and Marcus and then moved to the LeMars area where they farmed and raised a family of six.
Margery was a past board member of Catholic Rural Life, a member of Catholic Daughters of America since 1942, and a past secretary of the Sioux City Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. George and Margery enjoyed boating, square dancing, and playing cards and she also sewed, gardened and was politically active. After George and Margery retired, they purchased a motor home and traveled from the Yucatan of Mexico as far north as Alaska and enjoyed winters in the southern United States. The children and grandchildren met up with them on occasion to share in the traveling and camping fun. In her later years, Margery enjoyed playing cards and dominos and going out to eat with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, one sister Jean Vernell Baldner, and a daughter-in-law Bernadine Bindner. Left to cherish her memory are six children: Richard of Sioux City, Thomas and wife Linda of Marcus, Joan Kober of Sioux City, David and special friend Claudia Stevenson of Des Moines, Paul of Le Mars, and Georgia and husband Robert Mayberry of Winnebago, NE. She has 11 grandchildren: Donald (and Linda) Bindner, Dennis (and Helen Josephine) Bindner, Diane (Bindner) and Tim Williams, Dean (and Christine) Bindner; Greg (and Eileen) Kober, Michael (and Michele) Kober, Christopher (and Christa) Kober and Angela Kober Heldstab; Nathan (and Jessica) Bindner; Peter (and Elizabeth) Mayberry and Everett Mayberry. She has 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 29,2012, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. Monday, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus. There will be a scripture prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at the funeral home
