Margaret Holton

October 10, 1929 — May 17, 2014

Margaret (Pitts) Holton, the daughter of Bill and Esther (Anderson) Pitts, was born October 10, 1929, on a farm south of Maryhill, IA. She received her early education and graduated from Holy Name School in Marcus, IA. She married Emmett Holton on February 5, 1951, at the Maryhill Catholic Church. Throughout their married years, they lived in Cherokee. They were blessed with six children. Margaret had a special bond with each one of her children and grandchildren. Her kids could do no wrong in her eyes--they were "always right". She loved her home, the Chicago Cubs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing cards and her morning ritual of coffee and toast. She had a dry sense of humor and loved visiting with her many friends and relatives. She enjoyed cooking--her specialties included goulash, meatloaf, chocolate chip cookies, and her famous blueberry dessert. Margaret passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Unity Point St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, at age 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmett; brother, Carl Pitts; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Sonny Kenney; and nephew, Joel Kenney. She is survived by her children: Ellen (Rodney) Robinson, Denny (Cherie) Holton, all of Cherokee, IA, Mike (Jill) Holton of Alta, IA , Tim (Lora) Holton of Dakota Dunes, SD, Terry (Kerry) Holton of Overland Park, KS, and Steven (Joyce) Holton of Plano, TX ; her grandchildren: John (Missy) Briggs, Melanie (Todd) Benson, Heather (Jason) Swarthout, Eric Holton, Adam Holton, Jaden Holton, Paige Holton, Haley Holton, Ryan (Jamie) Holton, Matt (Kristin) Holton, Emily (Aaron Harvey) Holton, Mason Holton, Madison Holton, Nick Holton, Delaney Holton; her great-grandchildren: Mya Briggs, Dominic Foley, Jack, Trey, Joe and Harper Benson, Will, Mitch and Tatum Swarthout, Lane, Logan and Hayden Holton, Henry Holton and Dayne Harvey; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Ronnie Schmillen, sister-in-law, Audrey Pitts, her close friend, Connie Baum; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
