Marcella Day

Marcella J. Day of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital after suffering a devastating stroke 4 days earlier. Surrounded in love by family she went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday evening January 20, 2014. Marcella was born February 7, 1928 to Frank and Ellen (Collister) Chiles of Cherokee, IA where she attended and graduated from the Immaculate Conception School in 1946. On July 18, 1946 she was married to the late LaVern E Day of Quimby, Iowa. Her greatest accomplishments in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed working in a school as a secretary, cook and bookkeeper. Her family will remember her for her love for hummingbirds. Surviving are 1 son, Dennis (Wendy) Day of Cameron Park, CA, 2 daughters, Debbie Winn of Gobles, MI and Donna (Richard) Brigle-Day of Fort Wingate, NM; 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Frank) Simpson of San Mateo, CA, April (Loran) Serne of Holland, MI, Charity Weekley of Parchment, MI, Misty (Scott) Eland of Windsor, CA, and Clifton Cochran of Gardner, MT; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Austin, Tyler, Chase; brothers-in-law, Lyle French of Marcus, IA, Garland Day of San Pedro, CA, George Day, CA and sister-in-law, Geraldine Day of Sioux City, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister LaVonne French, brothers Dean, Keith and Joe Chiles, and son-in-law Robert Winn. According to Marcella's wishes she will be cremated and laid to rest in the Spring 2014 near her family in Mt Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Augustine Cathedral Church in Kalamazoo, MI February 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM with FR. Dan Hyman officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetic Association. Arrangements in Michigan are being handled by Redmond Funeral Home 4100 S Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
