Manfred W. Smith Sr.

January 22, 1926 — September 6, 2015

Manfred W. Smith, Sr. the son of Bessie Omaha and Johnson Smith was born January 22, 1926, in Greenwood, South Dakota. On April 29, 1949 Manfred was united into marriage to Hildegard Shove. Following their marriage Manfred worked in the construction and maintenance field for many years. For a brief time they owned and� operated the Smith's Grocery Store in Smithland IA. � Manfred enjoyed going fishing and boating with his grandsons. If you couldn't find him he was usually at the river catching his big�catfish �in his fishing boat or on the banks . He also enjoyed watching football and basketball whether his grandkids were playing or he was watching the professionals on his television set. His favorite basketball team was the Spurs. �� On September 6, 2015 Manfred passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Country Side Estates nursing Home in Cherokee IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Bessie Shove and Johnson Smith, His wife Hildegard Smith, Two sons Manfred Smith Jr, James Smith and a son- in law Robert Hanson. He will lovingly be remembered by his 10 children Connie (Delbert) Biberdorf, Rosie Hanson, Kenneth (Wanda) Smith, Robert Smith, Patty (Gary) Gleason, Edward Smith, Louie (Vickie) Smith, Linda (Mark) Lumbert, Michael Smith, Judy (Jeff) Miller, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

SERVICES

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee.
