Lyle Ray French, the son of Glenwood and Blanche (Hamilton) French, was born in Sheridan Township, Cherokee County, IA, on April 1, 1918. He grew up on the farm, and attended Sheridan #8 Country School.
Lyle was united in marriage to LaVonne Chiles on July 4, 1943. They made their home on the farm south of Cleghorn, where Lyle worked hard to raise crops and take care of the livestock. He also shelled corn and drove truck to haul cattle and grain. He enjoyed his life on the farm, but would occasionally get away to do some hunting with his sons, Jim and Doug.
Lyle continued living on the farm until he passed away on April 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, LaVonne, in 1999, and an infant son, Jerry.
Survivors include his sons and their families: Jim French of Cherokee, and Doug and his wife, Linda French of Murfreessboro, TN; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Ervin) Jones of Aurelia; other relatives and friends.
