Luverne Clifford Nelson, the son of Godfred and Linnea (Nillson) Nelson, was born on a farm south of Marcus, Iowa, on May 12, 1929. His early childhood years were spent on the farm; he graduated from Marcus Community High School. He proudly served with the U.S. Army in France during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and engaged in farming.
On August 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Alice Ralston. The couple was blessed with four children, Joseph, Linnea, Karen and Bruce. When he was able to get away, Luverne enjoyed going fishing and camping. He and Alice spent many years after their retirement as winter Texans. They enjoyed visiting with neighbors and traveling south of the border.
On October 17, 2016, Luverne passed away at his home in Marcus. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Doris, Ilene, Henry and Oke.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, and their children: Joe (Pam) Nelson of Marcus, Linnea (Al) Castillo of Dallas, TX, Karen (Vince) Putt of Kaska, PA, and Bruce (Staci) Nelson of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild.
SERVICES
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus.
