Luella Caroline Herron

Luella Caroline Herron, the daughter of Roy and Paula (Kohn) Sanders, was born January 31, 1924, in Sac County, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Fonda and Varina areas where she attended school and graduated from Varina High School. In February of 1942, Luella was united in marriage to William Schumann. In June of 1944, William died in WWII. A few years later she was united in marriage to Don Herron. Following their marriage they farmed for nearly 10 years before moving to Galva, IA where they purchased the Melody Inn Restaurant. They ran the business for several years until their retirement. Luella enjoyed playing cards, crotchet, fishing, boating, and camping. Most of all, Luella loved being around her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On January 5, 2011, Luella passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Paula Sanders; two husbands, William Schumann and Don Herron; one grandson, Cory Graybill; five brothers: Henry, Leland, Paul, Vern, and Glenn Sanders, three brothers-in-law: Jack Porth, Frederick Schumann, and Darrell Schumann; five sisters-in-law: Ruth, Rene, Beulah, Lavonne Sanders, and Laura Mae Schumann. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Graybill of Cherokee; five grandchildren; Terry (Lou) Graybill of Cherokee, IA, Brett (Jayla) Graybill of Cherokee, IA, Shane (Michelle) Graybill of Cherokee, IA, Gaylen (Melanie) Graybill of Marian, IA, and Barry (Jayne) Graybill of Marian, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Leota Porth of Hutchison, MN; two sisters-in-law, Jo Schumann of Fonda, IA, and Darleen Lee of Whiting, IA; one brother-in-law, Marlyn (Mavis) Schumann of Newell, IA; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
