Louise Elizabeth Sitzmann

October 19, 1933 — July 1, 2020

Louise Elizabeth Sitzmann, the daughter of Gerhard and Susan (Gengler) Probst, was born on October 19, 1933, in Le Mars, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Le Mars where she attended school and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. After graduation, she attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA for two years.

 On August 23, 1955, Louise was united in marriage to Stanley Sitzmann in Le Mars. They were blessed with five daughters: Susan, Mary, Lisa, Brenda, and LeAnn and one son, Stanley Jr., who died after birth. They farmed for a couple years near Archer, IA, and then moved to Cherokee in 1960. She ran the Youth Activity Center and Concessions and the Concessions at the swimming pool for many years.  She then went to work at Hy-Vee in the Bakery and Produce departments until she retired.

 Louise was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Cherokee, IA since 1960 and a member of the Lady’s Guild. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping, flower arrangements, ceramics, puzzles, and golfing. Louise always enjoyed playing games and getting together with family and friends.  She will be remembered by all as a kind, loving and caring person.

 On July 1, 2020, Louise passed away at the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Susan Probst, her siblings: Helen Farr, Rosemary Probst, Agnes Miller, and Jerry Probst, and her children Lisa (Steve) Loucks and infant son Stanley Jr.  She is survived by her sister Rita Henrich of Remsen, IA.

 She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Stanley Sitzmann; her daughters, Susan Ammons, Mary (Gene) Davis, Brenda (Marty) Ruppert, and LeAnn (Chuck) Parsons; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Since we are unable to gather at the church for a luncheon, a celebration of Lou’s life will be held at The Brightside following the funeral at 255 W Main Street Cherokee, IA starting at 1:00 p.m

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa
